The Pearl Post Opinion Editor Satenik Ayrapetyan, Print Editor-in-Chief Delilah Brumer, Art Director Gabrielle Lashley and Features Editor Angela Ledesma hold up award certificates after the National High School Journalism Convention closing ceremony on Saturday, April 22. The staff earned Eighth Place for print newsmagazine (small schools) in Best of Show and made it to the buzzer round of the Quiz Bowl. Brumer was named Runner-Up for the 2023 National High School Journalist of the Year and earned an Excellent Award for news editing in the National Student Media Contests.

SEPTEMBER The Pearl Post was announced as a 2014 Pacemaker Finalist for the first time. The Pacemaker is oragnized by the National Scholastic Press Association, a major organization in high school journalism. The Pacemaker is one of the most prestigious awards for student journalists and even being nominated for one is a great honor. Online Editor-in-Chief Chris Bower and Editor-in-Chief Natalie Moore were among the seven DPMHS journalism students in Washington DC to pick up The Pearl Post’s Pacemaker finalist plaque at the JEA/NSPA National Convention in November.
