On March 7, 10 newspaper and yearbook staff members attended a local write-off at CSUN. The write-off is held every year in the spring and those who place in the writing categories at CSUN qualify to go on to the state level write-offs. Staff writers Brandon Gilden and Joseph Mousaed got 6th place and 4th place in sports writing, respectively. Writer Rita Chidbachian and Managing Editor Ilana Gale got 6th and 4th place in features writing, respectively while photographer Veronica Godoy got 2nd place in photography. Online Editor-in-Chief Chris Bower won 2nd place in opinion writing and The Pearl Post placed third in the sweepstakes competition.
