Mrs. Hicks, 1 in 100
November 5, 2014
Computer science and math teacher, Leslie Hicks is one of 100 teachers selected to attend a 100 teachers workshop in Arlington, VA on Dec. 8-9.
Hicks has been teaching computer science for two years at DPMHS. Over the last several months she has trained at UCLA to help other teachers learn the curriculum.
However, Hicks is not planning on attending the workshop since she will be eight months pregnant by then and will not feel comfortable flying across the country.
“The best part of being a computer science teacher is watching students apply their math knowledge, especially their knowledge of functions, to solving problems in a way that it brings modeling to life,” Hicks said. “If they understand a problem deeply enough, then they can write a piece of computer code to solve that problem without collecting data from a thousand people.”
