For the first time in its six years of being a newspaper, The Pearl Post has been named by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) as a 2014 Pacemaker finalist. The Pacemaker is one of the most reputable awards for student journalism. The Pearl Post was also a Pacemaker finalist for its online website in spring 2013.
While Pacemaker is a very prideful award, few schools in Southern California are nominated. Seven other student publications were nominated in the same category as The Pearl Post (Broadsheet 8-page or less). The winners will be announced at the fall JEA/NSPA National Convention in Washington, D.C., which takes placeĀ Nov.6-9.
The students who are going to the convention are currently fundraising via a YouCaring donation site, which can be found at http://bit.ly/1rp12Ts
