The Birmingham Community Charter High School girls varsity volleyball team is more than excited to start their season after dominating  preseason.

The Patriots defeated  Robert Kennedy Community, John F Kennedy and Panorama high schools obtaining a perfect 3-0 record this year’s preseason. This could prove to be the impetus for an even more successful season.

Not only have the girls been commanding their preseason games, but most of the girls have played for the Summer League and on weekend tournaments.

“I feel like these preseason games really gave us the preparation and confidence we need to start our season strong,” senior Siena Tinoco said.

Team members Mackenzie Keegan, a middle hitter and Desiree Martin, an opposite hitter, have both vastly improved in skills, and Daniel Pearl Magnet players Erica Mallari and Tinoco have finer passing skills than last year.

This overall improvement these players are demonstrating will  prove to be a great factor into the team’s success this year.

Team chemistry is also huge and it seems like the Patriots have proven in preseason that working together is yet a force to be reckon with.

“I feel like as long as the team can truly play their best they have the chance to beat anyone in their way,” Coach LeAnne Bennett- Riley said.

The Lady Patriots had their first seasonal game against Granada on Sept. 30 losing by a score of 0-3.  The girls are still in high hopes though.  Their next seasonal match will be at an away game versus Cleveland.

“I think the team chemistry has improved really well, I have confidence we’ll do much better than last year,” junior Michal Francisco said.
