The Pearl Post has been announced as a 2014 Pacemaker Finalist for the first time in its six years of existence. The Pacemaker award is put on by the National Scholastic Press Association, a major organization in high school journalism. The Pacemaker is one of the most prestigious awards for student journalists and even being nominated for one is a great honor. In spring 2013, The Pearl Post was a Pacemaker finalist for its online website.
The Pearl Post is also one of the few public schools in Southern California nominated for the award. Seven other student publications have been nominated for a Pacemaker in The Pearl Post’s category: Broadsheet 8-page or less. You can view the other finalists here. The winners will be announced at the fall Journalism Education Association/NSPA National Convention in Washington, D.C., which takes place Nov. 6-9.
