Did you know… 

Houses are a unique aspect of Daniel Parl Magnet High School (DPMHS), there is Clemens, Hersey, Higgins and Salazar house. The houses were named after Samuel Clemens, John Hersey, Marguerite Higgins and Ruben Salazar. Not only did the ‘Harry Potter’ series influence the school houses but it also influenced the house points system.

Did you know…

The tradition of Fiesta Friday originated from when the school used to be on the grounds of Birmingham Community Charter High School (BCCHS). Fiesta Fridays encouraged students to go to teachers’ classrooms or meet in the commons area. It is now continued and done every other week so students could get a chance to spend time in the grove and enjoy themselves.

Did you know…

Rumors of the school being a hospital once before is true. The school used to be a part of a large hospital for soldiers recovering from World War II. It was a rehabilitation center for soldiers who had been struggling because of missing limbs, Quadriplegia, Paraplegia, Posttraumatic Stress Distress (PTSD), etc.

Did you know…

The rumor of the “quiet” room is also true. It was used as a punishment for special needs children who misbehaved when the school was an elementary school. Now it is used as a sound room for Mark Middlebrook’s media classes, with the supervision of a secrutiy guard.

Did you know…

DPMHS is the top 1% of high schools  in the nation although we are one of the smallest schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) with a student count of 416.

Did you know…

Many teachers had interesting jobs before becoming teachers. Such as Dan Cramer who used to be a lawyer and James Morrison who used to be a veternarian.
