Indie rock band, Young the Giant’s new album, “Mind Over Matter,” will surprise even the pickiest of music lovers.

Released on Jan. 21, it starts off with “Slow Dive,” a short, sweet tune that reveals a portion of what is to come in the album.  The soft playing of the piano and percussion instruments are attuned to soothe the troubles of a person.

Recognized after their hit single, “Cough Syrup,” was covered in 2011 by the popular television show “Glee,” Young the Giant proves to be a band of talent with eccentric vocals and colorful synths.

Lead vocals, Sameer Gadhia, doesn’t seem to fail his new, or faithful, fans with his chilling voice.  The synths and Gadhia’s vocals fuse together to make a commemorating second album.

As the title of the album suggests, “Mind Over Matter” deals with thoughts and ideas that plague the human mind.  Young the Giant successfully creates a collage of beautiful images with their music that illuminates the darkest parts known in the human mind.

Popularized singles, “It’s About Time” and “Crystallized,” were released as part of their album. “It’s About Time” has an edgier tone to while “Crystallized” remains upbeat.

“Mind Over Matter,” a song named for the album title, deals with something that everyone experiences- love.  The lyrics and instruments create such a vivid tale of uncertainness toward a lover.

The other songs in the album are as brilliant as their singles.  “Eros” successfully describes temptation at its fullest.

Mind Over Matter has a variety of melodies and rhythms that compel the listener every step of the way to stay tuned. Young the Giant deserves no less than reaching a high position on the charts for such a unique album.
