Pop musicians light up the Grammys with performances

With award season in full swing, Los Angeles has become celebrity central with a different award show every other week. This past weekend wasn’t any different when the upmost prestigious musical award show, The Grammys took over the Staples Center.
On Jan. 26 musicians all over the world flocked to the famous arena with high hopes of taking home one of the most distinguished awards given to only the most tuneful of the bunch. Ranging from gay or straight wedding collabos to intense husband and wife performances, the 56th Annual Grammy Awards couldn’t be farther from a snooze fest.
5. Lorde marks her territory on Grammy stage
New Zealand native Ella Yelich-O’Connor, better known as Lorde dominated the stage with her stellar performance of her smash hit “Royals” while executing her signature hand claw dance moves that caused up a storm on social media. Lorde also became one of the youngest, at the age of 17, to win two awards in reputable categories.
4. Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons show how a collaboration is done
Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons mash up of their chart topper singles “m.A.A.d City” and “Radioactive” got everybody in the arena on their feet. With intense strobe lights and smoke filling the stage, the performance was bound to set the place on fire.
3. Grammy fashion never fails to disappoint, or does it?
Red carpet fashion hits and misses definitely were plentiful this melodious Sunday afternoon. With jaw dropping extravagant gowns such as Katy Perry’s “musical number” and the Queen Bey’s whimsical lace attire undoubtedly were among the hits of the night, while newcomer Ariana Grande was blindsided by the mark Dolce & Gabbana and flopped drastically.
2. The King and Queen of music show everyone why they’re royalty on the stage
Beyonce and Jay-Z’s bootylicious opening act unquestionably set the bar way up for the rest of the award show. With Beyonce’s new song “Drunk in Love” featuring her other half Jay-Z, music’s first couple provocatively showed how they were drunk in love. The performance became a trending topic on numerous social media sites and obviously did not disappoint fans anticipation of the queen’s comeback.
1. LGBT equality history is made
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Queen Latifah and Madonna. If you thought that was a mouthful, you’d think the last portion of the show was hectic. While Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performed their LGBT equality anthem “Same Love,” Queen Latifah wed 33 straight, gay and lesbian couples right onstage. The performance ended with Madonna and her cane singing a rendition of her song “Open Your Heart” with the couples embracing each other for the world to see. The performance was filled with tears of joy and numerous eccentric smiles illuminating the arena.
