Parents and students gathered at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS) for the Rotary District 5280 Youth Service Conference.
The District Leadership and Rotaract team was present on Oct. 27 and helped the DPMHS Interact club set up the school for the event. DPMHS students, Avidan Gurvis and Jasper Harris are a part of the District Leadership team but they also taught their own workshop. About 15 Interact members attended workshops and assisted in directing more than 150 guests to the right workshops.
There were many guest speakers who taught workshops, such as “How To Create a College Application” and “Public Speaking Skills” given by three District Leadership students whose information focused on people who have problems with speaking in front of an audience.
Science teacher Stephen Schaffter was not only at the event to be the supervise teacher, but to also teach a workshop of his own. He spoke to students on his transition from being an engineer and becoming a teacher.
