It has become a bit of tradition at the annual Apple Town Hall to announce a new branch of the flagship iPhone family. But this year, the folks in Silicon Valley stepped it up a notch.
At the press event, which took place on Sept. 10, Apple introduced the release of two new iPhones to supersede the iPhone 5, which was released last year. With the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C, they look to appeal to two very different markets.
The iPhone 5S seems to be more for Apple aficionados and die-hards, and is the continuation of the progression of iPhones. It includes a new and improved camera, as well as a new 64-bit graphics chip and a fingerprint reader. The phone starts at $199 and comes in silver, gray, and gold.
The iPhone 5C looks more like a branch off of the iPhone 5, and is meant to appeal to people who are jumping into the smartphone market, or to foreign markets. While not as powerful as the iPhone 5S, it is still a step up from before. It is also made of steel-reinforced plastic instead of being completely metal, and comes in six bright colors. The iPhone 5C starts at $99.
Both phones run the new iOS 7, which is a simpler and easier format than before. The iPhone 5S, however, does have a better camera than the iPhone 5C, and has the previously mentioned 64-bit graphics and much faster computing.
This is definitely a toss-up for customers that look to purchase a new iPhone, and customers will truly need to pick and choose whether price is the factor or all the stronger goodies.
