Spring break is finally here and for me, a perfect spring break day involves a balanced mix of going out and spending time by myself. Here’s what an ideal spring break day looks like to me!
10 a.m: Opening act
One of my favorite parts about not having school is waking up at my preferred time: 10 AM. It’s enough time for me to get a taste of the morning without having to compromise my night owl schedule. First thing I do in the morning, after brushing my teeth, making the bed, etc, is make myself a cup of coffee. I never envisioned myself as a coffee person but having it with a little sugar and creamer I certainly found myself suddenly a coffee person. My breakfast is typically pretty light: maybe a bowl of cereal or just two pieces of toast. I find my appetite is weak in the morning. Then I’ll shower, plan a lovely-looking outfit, do my hair and other steps to get ready for the perfect spring break day ahead.
11:30 a.m: Picture perfect
There’s nothing I love more than going to the movies with friends. Depending on the theater my friends and I go to, we go to the mall and make some questionable financial decisions. My favorite movies to go watch are horror films and movies with an arthouse edge. This spring break, I’m thinking about potentially watching “Death of a Unicorn.”
1:30 p.m: Chow down
We’d be pretty hungry after the movie so getting lunch is very important. I usually like getting ramen or some sort of pasta when I’ am out and about and maybe if there’s still room in my stomach, I’ll get some boba milk tea after and. Then we’ll just walk around, look around the stores and discuss the movie we just watched. Right now, my favorite store to shop at is Daiso, with all of its various sticker sets and fun stationery materials.
3:50 p.m: Me, myself and I
After a day out with friends, some “me” time is imperative to making me not just fall straight asleep. At this moment, who I want to be around is me, myself and I. It would not be an uncommon occurrence to see me with a pair of headphones blasting music potentially a little too high and dancing like nobody’s watching (and hopefully no one is.) It would also not be out of the ordinary to see me reading something on my computer to help me get inspired to make art. And of course, scrolling mindlessly through social media.
9 a.m.: Downtime
Now I’m in the closing act of my day and that’s usually marked by a late dinner. I usually have it earlier but on action-packed days like this it gets pushed back. Then, a little more “me” time. I need a good amount of time to just reflect on the day and maybe get some more music in.
12 a.m: Serenity of the night
Something I picked up during the pandemic is late-night calls with my friends are some of the best bonding anyone can do. When everyone else is asleep and it feels like you guys are the only ones in the world playing video games or watching silly YouTube videos. Every funny thing feels funnier and every heartfelt conversation seemingly has more heart.
2 a.m: Closing act
I brush my teeth, do my skincare routine and say goodnight at this late hour. It usually takes me about 15 to 30 minutes to fall asleep and thinking about random things helps me fall asleep that quick. I used to take forever to fall asleep but I’ve learned how to just tire my brain out.
