For me, the ideal day begins without the blare of alarms or the worry of homework. The day unfolds with no rush. From downtown’s vibrant Grand Central Market to the creative energy of the Arts District, the itinerary makes itself as my family and I curiously turn into tourists in our own city.
9:30 am: A sweet wake-up call
Spring break calls for sleeping in, so I’d start my ideal spring break day with no alarms and the luxury of waking up naturally. I’d start planning a day out with my parents, brainstorming places to explore together.
10 am: Glam & Jam
I’d put on some good tunes, maybe alternating between my indie and 60s music playlists. Just allowing myself to sing along and not rush myself while doing my makeup and getting my outfit ready.
11 am: The downtown drive
My family and I would now be taking a traffic-filled drive into downtown Los Angeles to visit the historic districts and arts district. The closer we get to downtown, the more the cityscape comes alive. Skyscrapers reaching the sky and my excitement builds at all the sights.

Noon: The market go-tos
By noon, We’d arrive at Grand Central Market, ready for a hearty meal to kick off the day to kick start my day. Since I’m not big on breakfast, the market’s variety is perfect. The market offers a little bit of everything to satisfy any craving from Japanese dishes from BentoYa and afterward refreshing selections of fresh fruit at Torres Produce.
1:30: The artistic walk through downtown
After eating our delicious meals and desserts, I’d take advantage of being within range of the Arts District. A ride on Angels Flight is always a must when I am in the area and my favorite way to kick off my walk in the area. Then, I’d stroll through the area, exploring the many art galleries and museums nearby. The Broad and the Museum of Contemporary Art would definitely be on my radar since they offer free admission for all students, debating which one to visit first.
3:30 pm: Creativity wrap-up
After taking in the inspiring exhibits, it’s time to wrap up the artistic adventure. Feeling fulfilled, my family and I head back to the car, ready to make my way home. On the drive, I’d replay the highlights of the day in my mind, the vibrant art pieces, the fun family moments and the lively energy in the districts.
4:30 pm: Winding down with photos
Once home, I’d take a quiet moment to scroll through the photos I captured throughout the day. Each shot would bring back a memory whether it’s of the colorful market stalls at Grand Central or the intricate details of a favorite art exhibit. It’d be the perfect way to reflect on the day and relive its best moments and share a couple of them on my social media.
7 pm: A dreamy nap awaits
Finally, I’d cap it all off with a well-deserved, luxurious nap. Nothing like drifting off, content and cozy, after such a fulfilling day out in the city.
9 p.m: Pizza & Parent Time
After waking up from my nap my day is almost at its end but it’s about time I’m hungry again after my filling meal from the afternoon. Sharing a pizza with my parent’s would be a perfect way to close off my ideal spring day.
