Starting with a cleanser to make sure her face is clean, junior Delilha Trujillo then applies moisturizer on her skin, creates a perfect eyebrow shape, moves on to foundation, then adds blush, followed by a concealer, moving on to powder, then blending. She then contours with a bronzer, highlights her eyes with eyeliner and mascara, outlines her lips with lip contour, and, finally, puts on lashes. That is Trujillo’s daily routine as she prepares for her day.
She started the Cosmetology Club this year to help other students find their own makeup style.
“It brought me to really express myself in a way,” Trujillo said. “I’m hoping to help other students express themselves, learn new themes and learn about new products.”
The Cosmetology Club meets every other Thursday in Room 15. According to Trujillo, the members get to learn more about makeup and to show their unique approach to it. The club gives them opportunities to be who they really are, showing it through makeup in a safe space where all questions are considered and all answers are given. Other times, they play “Blooket,” with trivia about makeup.
“I think it’s really good for the people who are into it,” sophomore Lexi Lopez said. “I think it’s good because it gives people opportunities.”
Some club members like Lopez are good at applying makeup and are really interested in it. Not only students who are good at cosmetology are welcome to join but also those who wish to learn more about makeup and beautification. And Trujillo is there to give them the advice they need.
“Right now, our first meeting was just picking out ideas for what we should learn about first or what we want to talk about first,” Trujillo said. “Honestly, it’s not even something we plan out. It’s something that just happens. I ask questions to the kids and to the students. They let me know their feedback. Like, I ask for feedback from them. I ask them, like: ‘What do you think about doing? What do you guys want to talk about?’ because it’s about them. It is not about me. It’s about them and what they want to learn.”
