Every month, we recognize two student athletes, one from a boys team and another from a girls team. This month, we recognize sophomore Haskell Fay.
Although this is Fay’s first year on the Birmingham Community Charter junior varsity team, he’s planning to do wrestling for the rest of high school and go to different schools to compete.
Q: What inspired you to get into wrestling?
A: My whole family has done sports their entire life, and I have been doing it for around two years at this point. I just thought that I wanted to do it in high school, and my parents were extremely supportive of it so that’s why I do it.
Q: What’s your favorite part about being on the wrestling team?
A: Just being able to compete and go places. The people who I’ve met are also really supportive in helping me, and I’ve learned a lot.
Q: What’s a memorable experience you have from being on the team?
A: I think just how much I’ve learned. I started off not great, and I think from where I was to where I am now it’s a really big improvement.
Q: Do you plan to continue doing wrestling in the future?
A: Yeah, I plan to. I plan to do it through my whole high school experience and throughout the summer.
Q: How would you describe the atmosphere of your team?
A: I’d say decently hardworking. We’re all pretty determined to go far.
Q: What are you most excited for this season?
A: The main thing I’m looking forward to this season is going to different schools to compete and being able to use the things I’ve learned in an actual match.
