Greeted by the strong, punchy, synth-dance pop sound of “This Is the Life,” fans at the YouTube Theater experienced the energetic concert of a lifetime with Two Door Cinema Club’s ultimate presence on the stage.
After previously canceling their biggest tour in the United States in 2022 due to health issues, Two Door Cinema Club came back to Los Angeles on Sept. 19. I saw them for the first time at the second-ever Just Like Heaven festival, headlined by The Postal Service, nearly five months ago on May 18. Now, they are headlining their own shows like this one at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, accompanied by indie rock artist and social media influencer Petey, across the U.S.
Utilizing hard electronic sounds and effects, Two Door Cinema Club turns punk and indie rock into songs hard not to dance to. Originating in Northern Ireland in 2007, they gained their popularity from their debut album “Tourist History,” off of which came hits “Something Good Can Work,” “I Can Talk,” “Undercover Martyn,” and “What You Know.” Multiple of their songs made their way onto EA Sports FIFA titles like “Sleep Alone” on FIFA 13 and “Are We Ready? (Wreck)” on FIFA 17.
At the YouTube Theater, Two Door Cinema Club’s setlist consisted of all of their singles and hits, starting with “This Is the Life” and ending with “What You Know.” Attacking each song with the same precision and power, they play live sets as if they were studio albums. They played my personal favorite of theirs, “Sure Enough” with enough energy to power the stadium itself.
Though Two Door Cinema Club certainly isn’t famous, the three members play their shows with energy and passion, earning them a spot in my playlists. If the kind of music you listen to needs to make you dance, Two Door Cinema Club will hit the spot with their disco drum beats, electropop synth rhythms, high-end guitar tones, and melodic vocals.
