Only two years after the release of her famously known album, “Beatopia,” global pop sensation Beabadoobee released her third studio album “This Is How Tomorrow Moves” on Aug. 9. Reflecting and reverting back to her former approach to music making, she embraces the beauty of moving on after a heartbreak.
The album features brand new 14 songs with a total running time of 41 minutes. Beabadoobee initially released several singles, starting with “Take a Bite” on May 9. Quickly gaining popularity, earning millions of streams and leaving fans eager for the rest of the album.
Beabadoobee, who’s name is Bea Kristi, was born in the Philippines and raised in London. She began recording music under the name Beabadoobee in 2017 at the 17 years old. After spending seven years learning the violin, she transitioned to guitar when she launched her music career. Her work primarily explores both bedroom pop and indie genres. Her debut single, “Coffee,” quickly amassed hundreds of thousands of streams within days of its release.
“I think all the songs on the record I kind of let happen, I just had so much to say,” Beabadoobee said in an interview with Apple Music. “It’s really cathartic, it’s really therapeutic, like I just needed to get things off my chest and then when I write music I never think about how many people are going to listen to it afterwards.”
My favorite song out of the entire album is “Girl Song.” I enjoy how it mostly revolves around love, admiration and the complexities of relationships. Not only that but also how the lyrics convey a in depth message of finding yourself as you grow older is truly touching to me. One lyric that stuck out to me was “Waking up to hardly recognizing my own face. Just a stranger in the mirror.” Explaining not only the aftermath of a breakup but not being able to see yourself for who you once were. The lyrics focus on the emotional highs and lows that come with being in love. There’s an exploration of both vulnerability and the desire to finally love yourself, despite the challenges that follow through.
“‘Girl song’ out of all the songs in the record is the most tragic…there was always like a sense of hopefulness in that song, I wrote it because I’m still trying to figure that one out. In terms of growing up and loving myself,” Beabadoobee said in an interview with Apple Music.
Beabadoobee’s new album contains a blend of both indie rock and dream pop, characterized by its hazy guitars, melodies and introspective lyrics. Each song creating its own intricate meanings and ideas, capturing its unique essence and contributing to the rich tapestry of the album. Exploring themes of love, identity and growing up, all wrapped together in a sound that feels timeless and fresh. With a mix of upbeat songs and heartfelt ballads, Beabadoobee showcases her growth as an artist while staying true to her signature sound.
