Visit the ever-expanding spider-verse through the lens of Sony-Marvel’s “Madame Web,” premiering Feb. 14 and starring big names like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney.
The two-hour movie stars Johnson as the lead Madame Web, also known as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who after suffering a near-death experience, begins having visions of the future and gains newfound abilities. Using her new abilities, she foresees the danger Ezekial Sims (Tahar Rahim), the villain who has similar special abilities, intends to cause. Together with Julia Carpenter (Sydney Sweeney), Anya Corazon (Isabella Merced) and Mattie Franklin (Celeste O’Conner), Webb takes on a mission to take down Sims and save the girls from a terrible fate. Together, they seek to find out why they are interlinked and how Webb’s past is involved.
In the comics, Madame Web first appears in a 1980s Amazing Spider-Man comic as a minor character who aids Spider-Man on several missions. She is depicted as an elderly blind clairvoyant woman who is connected to a life-support machine with web-like details. In past Spider-Man history, at the time of her death, her powers are passed onto Julia Carpenter, the current Spider-Woman. The PG-13 movie is a fresh take of Madame Web’s character with many leading women on the screen.
The trailer that was released last November showed a sneak-peak of the action-filled scenes that the movie would bring, leaving fans waiting in anticipation for the newest adaptation of Madame Web’s character. Now, the wait is finally over as “Madame Web” is showing in theaters for all to enjoy.
