The junior varsity baseball season has come to an end, but players remain ready and anxious for the start of the next one.
“It’s been a bit of a ride this season.Overall, we were 9-6 in the season and 4-3 with our league opponents,” said sophomore Roman Tomashoff, pitcher for the junior varsity Birmingham Community Charter High School baseball team. “All in all, it’s been a great season.”
The team held a winning streak throughout the season but soon after entered a losing streak.
So far it’s been like a rollercoaster ride.
Through extensive training, they are looking forward to their next season.
Not only does practice prepare them physically and mentally for their games but helps them bond with one another.
“They’re like my brothers in the way that I see them everyday and that I can talk to them,” said freshman and right-fielder Lorenzo Escobar. “I know that they have my back.”
During games against successful competitors such as El Camino Real Charter High School and Cleveland High School, there’s anticipation and restlessness in the air.
It’s not always easy to overcome these emotions but the Patriots don’t back down from a ball game.
“I lock into focus and breathe because it helps relax my nerves,” said Escobar remembering a game versus a resilient team. “I remember to focus on the task at hand and that each game is a new game.”
Although the baseball team didn’t make it to their league district this year, they’re working hard to make it next year.
“Well, during the (junior varsity) season, we’ve improved,” Tomashoff said. “Next year, new guys will be joining the team and others will be leaving but definitely I hope to win league.”
