Armenian genocide remembered through school closure, lunchtime event

On April 24, Los Angeles Unified School District closed its schools for the first time to remember the Armenian genocide, which began in 1915. The next day, an event was held at lunch to honor Armenian culture and remember the genocide. The event featured performances of cultural dances by Armenian students, speeches about Armenian history and cultural food items.
