Halloween can be celebrated in many different ways: movies, trick-or-treating, partying with friends or video games! To get into the horror mood, here are a couple of video games recommended by staff to play during the Halloween weekend.

Layers of Fear

A terrifying psychedelic nightmare, Layers of Fear takes the player down a topsy-turvy journey across one mad painter’s home as he tries to repaint his wife’s face from memory. With little reliance on jumpscares, the game focuses on making the player uncomfortable through its dark atmosphere and strong audio quality. It can be played on the computer or any console. 

Night in the Woods

Set in the fall, Night in the Woods follows college dropout Mae Borowski as she returns to her childhood home. Featuring a charming cast of characters, the game tackles mental health and legacy as part of its themes, while centered on a mystery as part of its core story. It can be played on the computer or any console. 

Phasmophobia 

Fun all year round, but especially during the spooky season, Phasmophobia brings people together through horror. As you hunt down a procedurally generated ghost with your friends, tension runs high. It can only be played on the computer.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted

Horror in VR will always be terrifying, no matter what, and the iconic Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise is no exception. Now, in Five Nights At Freddy’s: Help Wanted,  you can be the one answering the call, waiting for dawn to break in order to survive the night. It can be played on mobile, console, or the computer. 

Until Dawn 

Considered one of the best choice-oriented games on the market, Until Dawn features a group of teens in a wooden cabin alone on a frozen night. As terror begins unraveling, they must survive up until the morning in order to escape. With plenty of frightening moments, the PlayStation-exclusive game is good to pick up for some Halloween frights.
