Athlete of the Month: Villanueva gets a taste of organized football, this season

Every month we recognize two student athletes, one from a boy’s team and another from a girl’s team for their performance on the field. This month, we recognize Diego Villanueva, the defensive end for the Birmingham Community Charter High School JV Football team.
Villanueva, a sophomore, began playing football in 5th grade and joined the Birmingham football team in June.
Q: When did you start playing?
A: I’ve always played all my life for fun but I got into the Birmingham team in June.
Q: What’s the best part about being back in person?
A: The best part is being able to have games this season.
Q: What’s your favorite part of the sport?
A: My favorite part of the sport is being able to hit with big dudes.
Q: How do you feel you did this season?
A: I felt I did pretty good since it was only my first year but I started almost every game.
Q: Do you plan on playing again next year?
A: Yeah I most likely would play again next year.
