April 17, 2020
In light of the coronavirus, musicians everywhere are holding concerts in an unusual place: online and social media live streams.
Due to the cancellation of tours and concerts, various artists are holding at-home concerts recording themselves for fans watching at home. Artists like Hozier, Chloe X Halle, Carla Morrison and many others have partnered with Global Citizen and the World Health Organization (WHO) in their #TogetherAtHome campaign, using music to bring people together while staying home. Recordings of past concerts and live streams can be found on Global Citizen’s updating Instagram and YouTube accounts. Here are some upcoming events you can watch from home.
Lady Gaga’s One World: #TogetherAtHome event in partnership with WHO and Global Citizen will air Saturday, April 18 and feature a celebrity line-up along with stories of those who are most affected by the virus. With hosts like late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, the event is set to honor and celebrate frontline healthcare workers.
Erykah Badu will hold the third installment of her Quarantine Concert Series on Sunday, April 19 at 5 p.m. PST on her personal website.
The virtual Minecraft-set festival Square Garden by 100 gecs is set to take place Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. through a virtual Minecraft festival. Artists like Charli XCX and Dorian Electra will perform for the multi-platform event streaming on YouTube and Twitch for viewers without the game.
