Student survives a day without tech – sort of

“This isn’t something I would like to do again because I missed out on too much.”

Given the challenge of going 24 hours without using any of the technological devices placed upon my shoulders, I was more than a little scared.

Normally, on a Saturday morning I get up incredibly early to start playing on my Playstation 4, but without being able to get on, I stayed in bed for an extra hour or so.

When I finally decided that I wanted to end my hibernation, I walked around my house for a while and pestered my family. As soon as they got tired of me, they told me to go find something useful to do with my time.

After only a couple hours, I already felt that itch to turn on my phone, which compelled me to go outside and play basketball. My family could tell that I was having a tough time sticking it out without technology, so they decided to take me out to lunch and buy a gift for a baby shower we were going to later.

Those were some of the most quiet car rides that I’d ever experienced since my sister usually blasts music and I told her to turn it off. These activities were easily able to kill a couple of hours, and with evening approaching, I felt pretty confident.

I was so close yet so far away when we headed to the baby shower and my dad told me to put in directions to the house.I reluctantly put in the directions, which meant that I cracked and didn’t complete the challenge. However, it didn’t discourage me as I still refused to use any tech for the rest of the day.

Going in, I felt like I wasn’t going to last even a few hours. However, I ended surprising myself and showed my parents that I do have some self-control.

This isn’t something I would like to do again because I missed out on too much, like not knowing how the Lakers game went. Personally, that isn’t something I can deal with.
