Top 10 Webtoons to read over spring break
March 26, 2018
As spring break approaches, those of us who won’t be vacationing are going to be at home, on the Internet. Do something useful with your leisure time and pull up Webtoons.com for some awesome comics and creative content.
10) “Randomphilia”
This comedy series follows the thought process of Devin Bosco Le, a man with self-described “dry humor for broken souls.” Though it can seem immersed in melancholy, borderline sadistic jokes, this comic also has inspirational chapters and clever exploits for readers of most all ages to follow.
9) “Room of Swords”
Girl meets boy, except the girl is a knight from the early 12th century and the boy is an astronaut from modern (if not future) times. Venture to an unknown realm with these protagonists as the black sun slowly sets in this new misadventure by the comedy duo behind Toonimated (now with moving gifs to enhance readership).
8) “CARL”
Robots have the ability to become sentient in this newly featured comic. Follow CARL, a robot psychiatrist who works alongside his creator, Dr. Alda, to bring innovative technology to the forefront. Though CARL helps people on a daily basis, no one can find out he can feel emotions, no matter how beneficial it can be to his patients.
7) “Asleep Beside You”
Ever wonder what it would be like if you woke up next to a complete stranger in your dreams? Well, that’s exactly what happens in this Webtoon. As protagonists Kate and Tyr navigate the realm of their unconsciousness, they slowly fall in love and search for ways to be together, if only in their dreams.
6) “Bluechair”/“Owlturd Comix”
Follow Shen as he comments on life, love, and everything in between in this simply hilarious comedy series.
5) “Dr. Frost”
Follow Dr. Frost, a psychologist who is unable to personally empathize with others, as he encounters various heart wrenching cases in this drama series by Jong Beom Lee. There’s too much to spoil, so the most I can say is that “Dr. Frost” is an amazing series which, as the description denotes, will “capture your heart.” This series has also been adapted into a television show in Korea.
4) “Siren’s Lament”
Ian, a siren, lures Lyra into the sea when she realizes she will always have an unrequited love for Shon. However, something goes wrong. With a complicated love story and lots of interesting lore surrounding some “Poseidon” to explore in the second season, now is the best time to catch up to this thrilling fantasy/romance series.
3) “Where Tangents Meet”
The first work on Webtoon by Instantmiso, “Where Tangents Meet” is a classic love story, based on a role play that its creator and several of her friends engaged in. Somewhat a collaborative work, this cute story about Landon and Rachelle, two misunderstood sweethearts with secrets and pasts that collide, is a heartwarming must-read.
2) “I Love Yoo”
With the best love triangle the interwebs have to offer, “I Love Yoo” is about Shin Ae, a high school student who’s just trying to get through classes and help her father make ends meet when Yeong Gi and Kosuke, two step brothers, come into her life, making it more complicated than it should be. An intricately written Webtoon with more and more to offer each week, this one’s definitely worth a read.
1) “Unordinary”
In a world where everyone has powers, the spotlight falls on those without powers and those who use their own powers to defend them. This Webtoon presents ideas that transcend its plot, which in itself is continually evolving and presenting intriguing drama and characters to follow along the way. This ongoing series is one you can both binge during break and save to continue throughout the year after finishing the previous series mentioned on this list.
