Reporter visits writing class

Cortney Langely, an experienced reporter, is used to talking to strangers to gather information about themselves for her stories. But during a recent visit to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS), she appeared uneasy talking about her job to a class full of teenagers.
“She looked very nervous at first but then she opened up about her career. I love how she became a reporter,” said Hailey Pohevitz, a freshman at DPMHS.
Langely, a reporter for the Virginia Gazette, came to talk about her career of being a reporter. She sat on the chair looking very nervous to talk to students in Jamie Whitmarsh’s creative writing class on Jan 18. She told the students about her 10-year reporting career and how she loved her work. Langely gave some tips on interviewing people.
“I wouldn’t change my job for anything in the world. It is so much fun talking to people about problems,” Langely said.
Langley discussed how fun it is to be a reporter. She talks to a lot of famous people and politicians about their jobs. Getting her job was a lot of hard work for her. The first time she tried getting it, the editors didn’t hire her because they said she lacked experience. Langely really wanted the job so she took some more classes and she finally got the job in The Virginia Gazette.
“You just never know how people are going to react to what you are saying. That’s the only thing I don’t like about this job,” Langely said.
