Filling out an application form is one of the first steps to getting a job over summer

Getting a job is a great opportunity for teens to develop skills and experience for the future. Here are some recommendations for finding a job to keep busy with and earn some money too.

Get a job permit

The first step to getting a job this summer is getting your job permit. Talk to your counselor about getting one and fill out the necessary paperwork.

Ask around your vicinity

Local businesses often need help during the summer. Simply asking around your local grocery stores or small businesses if they are currently hiring could land you a chance for an interview.

Use the internet to your advantage

Several jobs that require little-to-no experience can be found simply through the press of your keyboard’s enter button. Many job finding sites also provide local businesses that may be hiring and could make your search for jobs easier. Sites like SnagAJob, Cool Works and SimplyHired have hundreds to thousands of jobs available, many suiting teens.

Look right at home

Do you have a family member that needs help with babysitting while they are at work? Does your neighbor not have time to clean their house? Sometimes approaching those we know is enough to find a temporary job. Working for someone familiar could make it easier to work out wages as well as get flexible hours.
