Club spotlight: LGBTQ Club welcomes all walks of life

LGBTQ community.

“Being a person who is genderfluid and bisexual, I know how it is to not be accepted,” Cortes said. “I wanted to create a place where others won’t feel as confused and scared as I did.”

The club meets every Tuesday at lunch in Room 6. Club President Cortes, senior Kyle Marin, Secretary Kamryn Blake and the members of the club each help to plan out the several activities and make sure the club helps spread awareness. Club sponsor Steven Schaffter also helps in making decisions.

“So far I have informed the people in my group about different gender identities and sexualities,” Cortes said.

The club has discussions every Tuesday about poster ideas and ways to improve the club. The club is a safe place to talk about your feelings and thoughts about the LGBTQ

“I like how it’s a safe place for people to come and talk about issues that concern them,” Schaffter said.

So far, the club has spread awareness by creating posters and encouraging people of all backgrounds to join their club. Members look forward to doing activities and possibly going on field trips. As the club’s vice president, Marin wants to welcome more people into the club and have more students coming regularly.

“I want it to grow, I want it to be a club where everyone comes to,” Marin said.
