Marvel fans got a first glimpse of the famed character, Deadpool, in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” but on Feb. 12, the anti-hero’s own movie is hitting theaters.

Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool this month in “Deadpool.” The actor took on the role in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and is set to star in it alongside Morena Baccarin (Vanessa, Wade Wilson’s girlfriend), Gina Carano (Angel Dust) and T.J. Miller (Weasel).

Academy Award-nominee Tim Miller directed the film with a $50 million budget. This is his first collaboration with Marvel.

“Deadpool” centers around Wade Wilson, a man who undergoes a special treatment in hopes of curing his cancer. After the extreme procedure, Wilson is left with severe side effects, one of which include accelerated healing powers. In addition to the powers he receives, he is also left with a dark and twisted personality, Deadpool.

The movie features many acts of violence and bloody scenes as Deadpool seeks revenge on Ajax (Ed Skrein), the man who ruined his life after the cancer procedure.

Though early fan screenings are proving the film’s potential success, that’s not the same scenario overseas. Because of the graphic violence in the film, some countries are debating whether or not to feature the film. China is the first country to confirm they are banning the movie from being released because of the gore.

The movie was originally set to be released on Feb. 4 but Twentieth Century Fox pushed it to Feb. 12. Advanced screenings of the movie have received mostly positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The current run time is 108 minutes. As of now, “Deadpool” is rated R by MPAA for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.
