recognitions.

“In practice, we swim then do workouts like pushups and sit ups for three to five hours a day,” Grinfeld said. “I train from Monday to Saturday.”

Despite being a very respected athlete, Grinfeld has a vision for his future, somewhere outside the swimming pool. He plans on pursuing a career in mathematics, like becoming a professor. Grinfeld’s passion for mathematics is obvious, he started AP calculus in his sophomore year. Grinfeld has maintained a 4.2 G.P.A throughout high school.

“Maybe I’ll play water polo in college, but that depends on where I go,” Grinfeld said. “But my goal is to get a Ph.D. in mathematics.”

Unlike with many student athletes, water polo has never had a negative effect on Grinfeld’s academic responsibilities. Grinfeld is the current team captain, a prefect in school as well as part of the top 10% of the 2016 class and is most likely to win the MVP title this year.

“Balancing water polo and school work is never really hard, unless we have away games and I get home late,” Grinfeld said.

Grinfeld feels no pressure coming from water polo, on the contrary he is the happiest when inside the swimming pool. He goes to the sport when he’s seeking fun, rather than stressing about competing.

“Water polo is fun and exciting,” Grinfeld said. “It’s so intense and it gives me this rush and feeling of adrenaline.”
