School year starting later
May 28, 2015
The 2015-2016 school year will begin on Aug. 18, a week later than previous years.
This is because of debates over the arguments that occurred in March. The Los Angeles School District Board of Education (LAUSD) discussed the problems with starting the school year earlier and looked into starting later.
The primary problem with starting early is the heat, especially in the San Fernando Valley.
However, starting early also has benefits. High school students could finish their first semester before winter break.
The new date lines right in the middle of the starting early and starting late. This was accepted by the board members because it was a compromise they could muster up for this upcoming year.
