Keeping cool under the sun
May 29, 2015
Summer is right around the corner and sometimes, a pool or air conditioning doesn’t do it. Fortunately, there are many different ways to stay cool in the scorching California heat.
Frozen Yogurt
Frozen yogurt has gained popularity in Los Angeles. Frozen yogurt can be found all around the city. They usually charge by ounce and you can add many different flavors and toppings. Flavor options include vanilla, marshmallow, peanut butter and more. Toppings include fruits and candy. Frozen yogurt is also a healthier alternative to ice cream because it’s made with cultured milk instead of cream. While it’s healthier than ice cream, it’s still a treat that should be enjoyed in moderation.
Boba Tea
Boba tea, also known as bubble tea, is another very popular frozen treat in Los Angeles. It contains chewy tapioca balls in a slushed drink that can often be customized. It’s delicious and has many different flavors. Of course, with all sugary treats, it’s important to only enjoy boba tea every once in a while.
Drink Lots of Water
Your body is about 60% water so it’s crucial that you stay hydrated, especially when it’s unforgivingly hot outside. Your body needs water to stay on top of it’s game. This may seem like a no-brainer, but water has many overlooked benefits. It wakes you up, clears your skin, helps with healthier hair, improves your mood, prevents headaches and much more.
Put Ice on Pulse Points
Pulse points are areas that have major blood vessels close to the surface to your skin and therefore, can be used to cool down your entire body. Examples of pulse points are your neck, your wrist, your thighs and your temples. You can use an ice pack wrapped in a cloth or a damp bandana wrapped around your head, depending on your situation. The ice pack or bandana should only be cool and not freezing. The cold will cool down and help you manage the heat.
